Prerequisites for Using the SMS Facility
Before you can start using the SMS service for E-Way Bills:
- Your mobile number must be registered and authorized on the E-Way Bill Portal.
- You must know the correct SMS format for the action you want to perform (Generate / Update / Cancel).
- Only the Primary Authorized User or Sub-users with SMS rights can access this facility.
How to Register a Mobile Number for SMS Facility on the E-Way Bill Portal
To start using SMS services, follow these steps:
Step 1: Log in to the E-Way Bill Portal
- Visit: https://ewaybillgst.gov.in
- Log in with your Ewaybill Username, and Password
Step 2: Navigate to the SMS Registration Option
- After successful login, from the Main Menu, click on: Registration → For SMS
Step 3: Add Authorized Mobile Number(s)
- Select User Type:
(Choose from Taxpayer, Transporter, or Citizen, depending on your role) - Enter Mobile Number:
Provide the mobile number you want to authorize for SMS E-Way Bill operations. - You can register one primary number, and if needed, create sub-users with SMS rights for additional mobile numbers.
Step 4: Verification and Confirmation
- After submission, the portal will show a confirmation message.
- Your mobile number will now be linked with your GSTIN for SMS-based E-Way Bill activities.
Step 5: SMS Service
You can now start sending SMS requests to 77382 99899 for the following:
- Generating E-Way Bills
- Updating Vehicle Details
- Canceling E-Way Bills

Steps to Generate E-Way Bill Using SMS via GSTZen
- Log in to your GSTZen account.
- Click on Quick Links → E-Way Bill Utility.
- Click Generate E-Way Bill.
- Enter Supplier, Recipient, Invoice, Consignment, and Transporter details.
- Click Create E-Way Bill.
- Scan the QR code displayed on the screen or type the text as shown on the screen.
- Send the pre-filled SMS to 77382 99899 from your registered mobile number.
